Introduction

There is a new resource in the Liberty Basic neighborhood. It is a wiki site dedicated to our favorite language.

What is a wiki?

"A wiki enables documents to be written collectively in a simple markup using a web browser. A single page in a wiki is referred to as a "wiki page", while the entire body of pages, which are usually highly interconnected via hyperlinks, is "the wiki"; in effect, a very simple, easier-to-use database.

A defining characteristic of wiki technology is the ease with which pages can be created and updated. Generally, there is no review before modifications are accepted. Most wikis are open to the general public without the need to register any user account. Sometimes session log-in is requested to acquire a "wiki-signature" cookie for autosigning edits. More private wiki servers require user authentication. However, many edits can be made in real-time, and appear almost instantaneously online." - from Wikipedia [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki]

Where is it?

The Liberty Basic wiki is hosted at wikispaces.com. Go to [http://basic.wikispaces.com/] to access the site. If you would like to be a contributing member, please sign up for a wikispaces account. Remember this is a community resource - your help makes it a community.

What is available?

The wiki site currently has several main areas under development by the community:

There is also a great Members Page area where members can create their own Liberty Basic oriented page. Post your own Liberty Basic content here.

Why?

Many years back there was a nice wiki page that Carl Gundel (Liberty Basic's author) ran and maintained. It had a fairly small community of editors, but offered great resources including an FAQ, Links and other items of interest. Although this did not receive a lot of attention, it did serve as a great community resource. Sadly it was lost in the distant past. With the recent arrival of new collaborative tools like wikispaces, it has become possible to once again offer a community environment to build a unique information store.
